You might have already experienced a session where Chase pulled out his Fascial Blade, or this might be the first time that you're hearing about this helpful tool. Once you experience it, it's a game changer to both practitioner and client. Today, we're sharing about our featured product, RockTape's Mohawk RockBlade tool!

About the Brand

The RockBlade Mohawk was developed by RockTape who produces athletic gear that can be used by professional athletes, weekend warriors, and everyone in between. RockTape strives to craft products that help athletes achieve their goals or aids in pain relief and recovery. They believe that "Together, we aim to push boundaries and redefine what's possible" (RockTape, About Us).

About the Product

The RockBlade Mohawk is made from surgical stainless steel with hand polished surfaces, shaped in a 'T' or mohawk configuration with multiple tapered edges and radii. It is not constructed to cut, but to be used in either broad stroke work or precision work. This RockBlade was developed by RockTape to be "highly versatile, durable and ergonomic instrument that adapts to many tissue problems" (RockTape, RockBlades). The Mohawk blade comes with two detachable accessories: one silicone sleeve for soft tissue shearing and an ABS polycarbonate comb for mechanoreceptor stimulation in chronic pain or increased sensitivity cases.

Usage

There are various techniques that can be applied with this product including cross friction methods and approaching the area of focus from various angles. Since it is a fascial blade, Graston Technique and Gue Sha methods could potentially be used with this tool as well.

Chase has developed his own technique with this tool which targets trigger points and breaks up the layers of fascia in order to address injuries or solidified segments within soft tissue. He primarily uses the silicone sleeve for greater traction, controlling the speed he moves the RockBlade. Broad strokes are used to warm up and prime the body for deeper work, while the smaller points are used for the precision work of releasing trigger points and working through the layers of fascia.

The use of this tool is to preserve the practitioner's body and energy by ergonomic application. For example, by leveraging this tool, less physical pressure is needed with the practitioner's fingers to unlock trigger points which preserves their strength and energy throughout the day for other sessions.

The broad, light strokes of the blade can work similarly to light pressure massage which is used to warm up the area of focus or to desensitize inflamed areas, preparing the body for deeper work. As this tool manipulates the soft tissue, blood is pushed around to areas of need which also aids in the recovery process of soft tissue.

Our Experience

While others may use the Mohawk Blade in a more Graston or Gua Sha method, Chase uses this tool for precision work in breaking up the layers of fascia to access either damaged or locked up tissue. The three points of the Mohawk Blade helps give pinpoint accuracy in targeting trigger points. With only a little leverage, he applies pressure on these knots, coaxing them to release, after which he can use the flat blade edge to circulate blood flow thus encouraging the worked on muscle or tissue segment to relax and heal.

In Conclusion

The Mohawk Blade is one of several tools that Chase incorporates into his massage sessions depending on the client's needs. Used either in broad strokes or precision work, it serves excellently in breaking up fascia and locked tissue segments, resulting in increased blood circulation and addressing areas of pain.
